The British Long Distance one hour postal swim entries have been sent off. Because it is a world wide competition the results will not be available until the middle of April. The computor results should be available at www.postalswim.com at that time, i shall not receive the printed version and badges until early May. Every one did very well this year Ben Goodall produced a tremendous swim going 5.100m (204 lengths) the furthest ever done by a Marlin at the swim. COMPETITOR REPORTING
Secondary entry cards will not be used. Competitors may withdraw up to 1 hour before the scheduled start of the session by telephoning 07929 377809 and leaving a message stating swimmers name, gala, event number and competitor number.

FINES FOR LATE WITHDRAWAL OR NO-SHOW
Late withdrawals and no-shows will result in a £5 fine per swim, payable by the club under whose name the swimmer has entered the competition. Non-payment of the fine will result in the swimmer being prevented from entry to any other competition promoted by Derbyshire ASA until the fine has been paid.

We shall be taking part in the British Long Distance Swimming Association's one hour swim again this year. all the club will be involved on sunday the 14th of february. watch the web site for more details.

We shall be holding a Child Protection Seminar at Alfreton Leisure Centre in the Function Suite, on Sunday 7th February.
Start time is 1:30pm with an expected finish time of 4:30pm.
The course is open to all Belper Marlin Committee members, Teachers, Coaches, Pool Side Helpers, Team Managers, Life Guards and Parents.
There is no charge for attendance, tea and coffee will be available for purchase.

We are all really pleased to see the enclosed Press Release from Amber Valley Borough Council concerning the "Making Belper an Active Town" initiative.
The feasibility study includes the possibility to construct a brand new 6-lane pool complex with learner pool and spectator seating.
Belper Marlin Swimming Club is firmly in favour of this initiative and we ask you to give your support to this initiative when the opportunity arises.

This was a great gala full of atmosphere and a great team performance by everyone, including the parents. Well Done!

Don't forget the Belper Marlin Swimming Club Presentation Evening & Disco, to be held on Monday 21 December at Nailers (Belper Town FC).
Doors open at 6:30pm with presentations starting at 7:00pm.
Presentations will be made for the Juniors and Novices first, with Seniors to follow after a break for food.
Don't forget to bring a plate of food with you, to be shared amongst the buffet.
There will be a disco after the presentations are completed, with the bar closing at 11:00pm.
Raffle prize donations welcome.
Please be sure to return all Club Champs trophies (clean please) to Pete Marshall in advance of 21 December.

January 1st 2010 will see new FINA laws on what you can and can’t wear in swimming competition come into force. This will affect us all because all competitions run in the UK, excluding Masters and Open Water events, are run according to these laws.

For some time now the one swim suite rule, whereby swimmers are only permitted to wear one swimsuit at a time in competition, has been enforced. From January 1st 2010 new rules will come in to place requiring male swimming costumes not to extend above the navel nor below the knee, and female costumes not to cover the neck, nor extend past the shoulder nor below the knee.

FINA rules state:-


GR 5 SWIMWEAR

GR 5.1 The swimwear (swimsuit, cap and goggles) of all competitors shall be in good moral taste and suitable for the individual sports disciplines and not to carry any symbol which may be considered offensive.

GR 5.2 All swimsuits shall be non transparent.

GR 5.3 The referee of a competition has the authority to exclude any competitor whose swimsuit or body symbols do not comply with this Rule.

BL 8.2 In swimming competitions the competitor must wear only one swimsuit in one or two pieces. No additional items, like arm bands or leg bands shall be regarded as parts of a swimsuit.

BL 8.3 From January 1, 2010 swimwear for men shall not extend above the navel nor below the knee, and for women, shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below knee. All swimsuits shall be made from textile materials.

All major swimwear manufacturers now have 2010 legal swim suites on their websites, or talk to Irene Hallsworth.

**UPDATE 1 December**
It has been agreed with Melton Swimming Club that 9 year olds can also enter this gala, on condition that they are age 10 on or before 30 June 2010.
Any 9 year old swimmers will swim in the 10 year old category and will be eligible for any placings, awards and points won

We have 2 new swim sessions available at Alfreton Leisure Centre as follows.
Tuesday evenings - 7pm to 8pm
Saturday mornings - 8am to 9am
