Lane 6 shallow end– Junior Development Squad

Teacher: Mick Howard, Helper: Adam Brett

Focus on = Skills
Technique
Kick
Basic Diving
  • Skill Category – Sculling, rotation, somersault, streamlined body position treading water
  • All 4 strokes (basic technique over 12.5mtrs)
  • 12.5mtr Kick streamline (Front, Back, Brst)
  • 25mtr Kick with aids (Front, Back, Brst )
  • Jumping and Lunge Dive off Blocks (Streamline to 5mtrs)

Lane movement level 6 NTP or Chief Coach recommendation


Lane 6 Deep end– Junior Development Squad

Basic Diving

  • 50mtr Kick with aids (Front, Back, Brst)
  • Plunge Dive off Blocks (Streamline to 5mtrs)
  • Back start from side

Lane 4 – Development Squad

Focus on = Aerobic Maintenance
Skills
Speed work
  • Aerobic capacity -
    • 200mtr continuous, using 2 stroke
    • 3 good strokes, Front, Back & Brst
  • Skill Category – Sculling, rotation, somersault, streamlined underwater push & glide to 5 – 8 mtrs
  • Starts & Turns – pre-competitive start award (working towards)
  • Kick – 100 with aids 50 without, both alternating & simultaneous kick
  • Pace clock

Lane movement level 8 NTP or Chief Coach recommendation


Lane 3 – Development Squad

Focus on = Aerobic Maintenance

  • Skills – Streamlined underwater phase on front and back

  • Kick – 100mtr F/c B/c + Brst, 50 mtr Fly with + without aids

Lane movement 3 Bronze sprint awards 50 mtrs or Chief Coach Recommendation


Lane 2– Swim skills squad

Teacher: Mike Brett, Paul Shrimpling

Focus – Introduce threshold

  • Aerobic capacity – 200 IM legal  + 800 F/c + turns
  • Skills – 2 core drills each stroke, kick on sides
  • Starts – Competitive start award
  • Kick – 200 IM
  • Education–
    • Hydration – drink before, during and after training
    • Flexibility – demonstrate 3 exercises
    • Heart rate – understanding of how to take Heart RateLane movement 2 Silver sprint awards or by Chief Coach recommendation

Lane 1 – high swim skills, 11 – 13yrs unless on fast track program.  4 hrs per wk

Teacher: Mike Brett, Paul Shrimpling

  • Aerobic capacity –
    • 1600 F/c (NTPS 10)
    • 200 IM under 4 mins
  • Starts – Demonstrate 3 different starts – track, grab, relay,
  •  Must have good underwater phases 5mtrs-8mtrs
  • Kick – timed kick e.g. 10 x 50 F/c on 90 sec
  • Education – simple set taking heart rate, e.g. 6 x 50 B/c
    • Understanding  resting Heart rate
    • Demonstrate 5 mobility + 5 flexibility exercises
    • Start a training log book with comments on heart rates and hydration levels

     

Lane movement into main squad sessions

3 silver or 2 gold sprint awards 50’s or 100’s
