What do all the various squads mean?
Learn To Swim program - These are our youngest and least experienced swimmers. The lessons for these are held at Heanor, initially in the teaching pool, then in the main pool when they are sufficiently able. The Learn To Swim Program follows levels 1-6 of the ASA National Plan for swimming.
Pre-competition swimmers - These swimmers continue with the ASA National Plan, working on levels 7-12. At the same time they are introduced to the racing techniques of starts, turns and finishes.
Junior Squad - Predominantly aged between 9 and 12, these are the swimmers that represent the club at the Notts and Derbys Junior swimming league each spring. As these swimmers are now quite experienced, more focus is given to coaching rather than teaching, with lots of work on racing technique. They train together on a Sunday evening to help to establish a team identity. The more experienced of these will also swim with the senior squad on a Monday evening.
Senior Squad - these are our most able swimmers aged 13 and over, they swim in the later sessions on Fridays and Sundays.
Masters - For mature swimmers of 25 plus who enjoy the camaraderie of the early Sunday and late Wednesday sessions.
