It was a MAD start to the new swimming season for Belper Marlin’s. Matlock And District Swimming Club (nick named MAD) started the ball rolling with a gala at the Arc Leisure Centre. But it wasn’t going to all go the way of the home team with medals and trophies galore coming back with the successful boys and girls of Belper. Young swimmers that had turned nine and ten years of age were now swimming and showing their steel. Special mention goes to Dean Thurnham and Phoebe Barden who showed the older swimmers how it was done – smashing their personal bests. Laying down the gauntlet to the older swimmers obviously did the trick as Connor Osin won the skins which made him the fast male swimmer of the tournament! For Connor however the reward came in the form of £50, which of course we’d all agree his parents should claim as they had paid the entry fee! Great swim Conner … kerching!
Later that evening the Four Towns Gala was held with local swimming teams going head to head in various sprints and relays. Again the new crop of Marlin’s were called upon and did the club proud. It is now non stop for the club with every weekend placing demands on the devoted parents to transport their children to one gala to another. However they can’t complain because if the team does as well as last year they will have plenty to cheer on!
