Matlock and District (MAD) Swimming Club started the swimming calendar this weekend with an excellent gala at the Arc Leisure Centre. It provided the opportunity for new swimmers to collect their first medals and trophies after watching their Olympic heroes do the same in Rio.
It soon became apparent that Belper Marlin Swimming Club were going to put their mark on the event and they were soon wandering around with armfuls of glass plaques and chinking with medals around their necks.
Special mention goes to Jordan Cooper Smith, Jason Lockwood, Scarlett Lemon, Pippa Baker, Poppy Hopewell and Megan Crompton who all gave their all and had a fantastic day of racing and to William Brookes (4th) and Joshua Horobin (3rd) who both competed in the Skins Event.
Let’s hope that this year is as much a success as the past few, where Belper is a team to be reckoned with – it certainly looks that way..
