A Grand Day Out for Marlins Masters

10 senior Marlin swimmers took part in the Etwall Open gala on Saturday. The meet serves as the Derbyshire masters championships, and with the club so well represented expectations were high. So, using all 452 years of experience and selecting only the key 55 events, they swam hard and fast.

Almost every swim resulted in a personal best and no team had more vocal support. However it’s not just the taking part, bling was the target, and bling was achieved. Belper Marlin masters now hold 11 county champion titles, each one hard fought against high quality opposition.

Showing that every swim counted, and after consideration of all of the results, Belper beat many larger and younger teams finishing 7th of the 43 competing clubs.

Special mentions go to Helen Skinner for gaining second place in the overall women’s rankings, and to Jim Corbett for setting a new meet record in the men’s 100m Freestyle

The Belper competitors were Phil Ainley, Gavin Brookes, Ady Brown, Jim Corbett, Caroline Kearley, Sarah McGraw, Robert Rantzen, Paul Shrimpling, Emma Whysall. All are keen for the next challenge and hope to have more masters swimmers join them soon.
