Belper Marlin swimmers produced a multitude of great performances taking an unprecedented 15 gold medals on the first weekend of the Derbyshire County Championships. This equals their best ever gold medal haul and there are still 2 weekends of swimming to go.
The medal haul includes another 17 silver and 13 bronze.
The medals were spread over a number of ages,10y/o winner was Danny Skinner 11 y/o winners were Casper Raynard, William Brookes and Dom Shrimpling, 12 y/o Sam Frost, 14 y/o Joshua Horobin and 17 y/o Leah Hollingsworth. There were many other medallists and some superb performances that didn’t achieve gold and a number of swimmers finished in the top 6 for the first time in their careers.
This is no fluke but underlines the hard work put in to training in the pool doing the ‘hard yards’, the use of ever improving swim skills and land training fitness. Well done to all those swimmers who competed this weekend and we’ll be back for round 2 next weekend
