Marlins are Hot in the Steel City..

It was a 50 mile an hour run up the M1 to Sheffield’s Ponds Forge for Belper Marlins this weekend. Watched by speed cameras all the way there was no breaking speed records on the journey. However it was a different story when we arrived at the pool. Whilst the sun shone outside the swimmers dazzled in the water. Personal bests were beaten time after time and medals collected by the wonderful Marlin’s again and again. There was also a special treat in store for all the youngsters when Andrew Weatheritt from Loughborough appeared on the blocks at the end of the boys breaststroke heats . His intent was to beat the British Record for 50m breaststroke, and he didn’t disappoint. It was a good job there was no speed camera on the pool as he blasted down in an amazing new record of 26.70 seconds. Inspiration for all those on poolside. The ten lane pool was then swapped for the three lanes of the M1 again. Parents were glad of the speed restrictions as their cars were weighted down with medals!
