Marlin’s Bag the Lot with Extra Sprinkles

With their growing reputation for taking the honours at every gala they attend the heat was on at the Eckington for Belper Marlin’s to take home the Swimming Club Trophy.  As usual the team didn’t only achieve their goal but surpassed it!

A squad of approximately thirty swimmers from the ages of nine to fifteen turned up for the programme of individual events with medals and trophies up for grabs and points available for overall team position.  With swimming clubs from Ripley, Matlock, Derby, Eckington, Sheffield, Rykneld, Long Eaton and Swadlincote the Belper Marlin’s were up against stiff opposition.

As the day progressed it was apparent that our children were staking their claim, as Marlin after Marlin was named in the top three places.  It also became apparent that inner club rivalry was spurring the children on with Rachel Ainley and Ailish Adams coming in after a tremendous fifty meter freestyle swim to touch at exactly the same time to a hundredth of a second with 30.98s.

After a quick game of ‘team catch’ on the grass at lunch the competition in the afternoon continued as it began from the morning.  At the final points count not only did Belper Marlin’s win the Swimming Club Trophy for the day but Phoebe ‘the bullet’ Barden, Samuel Brookes and Nick Skinner were awarded Top Girl and Boys respectfully.

It was a day to remember as Belper added to their reputation for bagging the bling and doing it with style.  Fun was had by all and the ice cream van outside made a killing as the children used their success to convince the parents to treat them to a ninety nine with all the trimmings!!  Well I suppose they deserved it!
