Here’s his account of a Great Day…
It has been a long day, getting up at 6.30am for an 8.30an registration.
Race briefing for the 5k was at 10a.m. with the race starting at 10.30. Today, the water temperature was 14 degrees (about half the temperature of Belper Leisure center), but the windy conditions made sighting the bouys very difficult. However, i swam two minutes faster than i was predicted overtaking the defending champ in the last 500m and winning the 5k by a whole 11 seconds!
Returning this afternoon and the conditions, now included a torrential downpour. Twice as many people raced the 2k with there being nearly 80 swimmers competing. I favor the 2k distance over the 5k anyway so was looking forward to the race. Again it came down to me and the defending champion, this time i pulled clearly away with 500m to go and finished about 30 seconds in front.
